CHANGELOG

Creating a new and exciting interactive community application like FusionBB has been a growing and developing progress. We've kept this changelog of a few of our larger milestones here. We'll continue to update our progress as we go so you can follow along with us at home. ;)

• Complete coding for implementation of a CAN_SEARCH_ALL_FORUMS permission.
• Added permission settings to make the full post tracking on the index and within the forum, user group specific. This allows the admin to restrict these more server intesnse features to higher user groups and reduce server load.

• Completely re-worked the way that buttons are drawn in each individual post. Was all graphical, but is now drawn by CSS. This is faster and more efficient, and allow the option of using graphical or text-only buttons.

• Finished with the importer for UBB.Threads version 6.5.2. This importer will import all categories, forums, users and posts.

• Continued work on the event processing for the calendar. Have been playing with a variety of ways to have time based evnents, time zone specific without time zone issues when viewing the events on the calendar.

• Moved the new post marker on the article template as to not mess up the formatting of the article.

• Created a cache system for storing the last and next month in the calendar.
• Changed the way the shoutbox loaded so that the iframe isn't loaded until after the main page is loaded. This should *hopefully* prevent the page stretching bug in IE. If the user doesn't have javascript enabled the shoutbox will not be loaded.

• Modified new posts to make anonymous users preview their posts prior to being able to add them to prevent some basic spam attacks.
• Fixed bug where ignored users would show up multiple times in a user's ignore list if they had multiple active sessions.
• Modified docron.php to use a buffered approach to loading cron scripts. This way if it's been a while since they were last ran they wont all be ran at once during a page load. (less chance of php timing out this way to)

• Added the ability to tag a forum to hold articles. If a forum holds articles then the first post in a topic is displaed in an article template. Replies to articles appear as normal.
• Added an optional forum keyword field. If this field is populated, then links to that forum will contain this keyword. This may enhance search engine position since your target search word will actually appear in the URL.

• Added check for request method during insert edits so only post requests are acted on. (prevents back paging overwrites)
• Added initial database table for calendar use. Calendars will be site wide (global), per forum and permission based for users.
• Added fall through to admins receiving contact emails for reported posts. Now if there are no assigned moderators to a forum and there are no super moderators the 'contact' admins will be notified.
• Modified around 100 scripts to get user location info into use at session start rather than updating later on in the scripts.
• Modified ImageMagick test script to not require path editing prior to use.
• Added new site permission to limit posted text. (lots of 16mb posts could be a bad thing)

• Added the ability for the admin to define the color of a user's username. This appears in any script which can display the user group status flags.

• Fixed a bug where the user's post jump preference wasn't being recognized in the Private Topic list.
• Changed the forum_description field in the database to TEXT format to hold more than 255 characters.
• Fixed a bug where after topic reply counts were recalculated, moved pointers show -1 replies. Run the utility again to fix moved reply counts.
• Fixed misplaced comas on the private topic list when only one participant was left in a private topic.
• Added a check when moving a topic and leaving a pointer so that you don't get duplicate moved pointers in the same forum.
• Added the [tab] markup which inserts 5 non-breaking spaces into a post.

• Added utility script to restore missing group inheritance permissions. A link to "Restore to Self" is displayed in the permissions list if any are found missing.
• Added "Alwaus use Default" for user skin options. Users with this option will always have the admin configured default skin set for them.

VERSION .13 Beta

June 18, 2005

• Changed user's display control panel - If there is only one language in use there is no option list given to change.
• Changed user's display control panel - If there is only one skin in use there is no option list given to change.
• Added new permission 'CAN_BE_INVISIBLE'. This permission allows the user to set themselves invisible to others.
• Added new permission 'CAN_SET_SIDEBARS'. This permission allows the user to set their sidebar display prefs. If a user doesn'thave this permission they get forced to use the default sidebar view.
• Added new permission 'CAN_USE_ALL_SKINS'. This permission allows admins (or any group with the permission) to do design work on skins that are unavailable to others.
• Added 'Force all pages' option under general settings. This option will force the sidebars to be displayed on pages that typically do not use them do to screen layout. The only exceptions are transition pages using meta-refresh since these pages are temporary and only display for a few seconds.
• Added option for users to adjust their text area width and height preferences in their display settings.

• Added support for wild card banning of IP addresses.
• Added option to use the server daylight saving time setting in relation to your site. (not all servers are configured to observe DST - milage may very)
• Added option to force fetch recent topics and ignore the 24 hour time limit when calculating what is considered recent. (good for less active sites)
• Added option to display alternate Online Particle Box information. The alternate display shows totals including invisible users.
• Added option to make RSS subscription links load in new window.

• Added security Question and Answer to users password control panel area. This will help verify their identity in certain situations.
• Added new site permissions CAN_SEE_SEC_Q_A. (this allows for the viewing of security questions and answers)
• Email notification is sent to users when they change their passwords so they have a record of the change.
• Added ability for admins to select what skins they want users to have available to them.

• Added email option to send email denoted with the UTF-8 character set.
• Added email option to designate text enoding for email. "quoted-printable" is the recommended default.
• Added email "from" name setting. Some spam filters count the lack of a real name along with the "from" email address against the email.
• Added option to have contact form information submited to a forum specified by the admin. (located under email settings)
• Enhanced contact form information by checking to see if user has cookies and java enabled. Their IP address and User Agent are also recorded as seen by the server.
• Added real email change verification. Now when users change their real email they will be sent a verification request to their new email address to confirm before the change is completed.

• Fixed a variety of missing language strings.
• Broke the re-sync permissions script up into steps to avoid time outs on larger boards.
• Adjusted the way dosearch.php links to individual posts from search results. Instead of linking to showpost, it'll link to showtopic, but jump to the specific post.
• Modified censor function to allow censored text to be replaced by HTML coded text. Usefull in creating automatic links on key words in a post.
• Added forum specific censor settings. Now a forum can have it's own defined list of censored text or not be censored at all.
• Added new permission CAN_MANAGE_OWN_GROUPS to allow those with the permission to add and remove others from their groups only. Users in only the moderator group can not remove someone from the administrator group. (inspired to get this in now by Couchtomatoe... lol)
• Added additional topic age options (24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, 5 days, 7 days and 14 days)
• Converted welcome emails to HTML format for a nicer look.
• Version .11 Beta released to private beta test group.

• Fixed a bug that occured when regular expression characters were included into search terms.

• Added check to make sure there are other participants in a private topic before allowing a reply.
• Allowed for forum list footer info (max online/current online/new user) info to be tracked and displayed without sidebars on.
• Added a filesize field when setting the site permission CAN_USE_AVATAR_UPLOAD allowing you to specify the maximum allowed filesize (in bytes) for avatar uploads.
